On Thursday, 21 July 2016, a Mandela day event was held at the Mabitse Primary School just outside of Rustenburg.
The event was attended by the district officials, the Area Manager (Rustenburg Area Office) and the circuit manager (Areaganeng) also in attendance was the Headman from the Local Traditional Leadership and the community at large. The School Governing body as well as the parents of the learners were also a part of the event. The school Principal was supported by the teachers and the SMT members of the school. The Bojanala project office had represented the NECT, with the Project Manager, the Logistics Coordinator as well as the Change agents. Last but not least, the Woolworths team, which comprised of the three stores in Rustenburg had made a great impact.
The school had prepared a few activities for the day, which included a poem by three young girls, a traditional dance, and a little play. Woolworths had sponsored school shoes and socks to every learner who attends the Mabitse Primary school. A symbolic handover was presented to learners by the Woolworths team.
We would just like to extend our gratitude to the NECT and the Woolworths team for such a heartwarming event and for sponsoring these learners with the school shoes and socks. All speakers have expressed their gratitude to Woolworths and the NECT for selecting the school as a venue to celebrate the birthday of a Legend. This day will be remembered by all the learners, teachers and the parents, as this has brought so much excitement and remembrance of Nelson Mandela.
