PSA has been working with Natal Portland Cement Finance Department over the last few months to assist them in their endeavor to improve their level of service to their internal customers. One aspect of this was the development, and then facilitation of a customized team build session which took place on the 27th August 2008.
The team build was structured around the four main foundational areas of a successful team, namely: Purpose, Roles, Process and Relationships. Different exercises and activities were facilitated linked to each of these foundational areas. For example, the team members were required to review and confirm their vision, identify Key Performance Indicators, as well as how they would measure these. The importance of having SMART targets was also discussed. The need for effective communication was reinforced through discussion and fun exercises. The team also discussed challenges they were facing and generated potential solutions to these. In addition, a team “Code of Conduct” was developed and committed to which would govern the behavior of team members.
Finally, a detailed action plan was developed to assist them to transfer what was agreed at the workshop into their workplace.
