The NECT District Improvement Programme, whose implementation PSA is managing on behalf of a consortium of four organisations (PwC, PSA, Penreach & Class Act), started off with a bang in 2017! In 2017 the Project Team is working closely with the relevant Bohlabela District officials to roll out the Learning Programmes to all the teachers of the 398 schools in Bohlabela. A total of 4649 teachers and HOD’s received training on the Learning Programmes tools and processes. The training focussed on the Foundation Phase EFAL, Maths and Home Language (Xitsonga & Sepedi), Grade 4-9 Maths & EFAL and Grade 8-9 Natural Science teachers. Although this figure will obviously be improved on going forward, there was a 72% attendance of teachers.
There were lots of learnings gained from training at this scale which will result in improvements when training is conducted in Term 2. A series of planning workshops have been conducted with the District Curriculum Implementation Team and the four Universalisation Change Agents employed in the project to prepare a model to support the trained teachers to implement the learning programmes routines, tools and methodology.
