PSA is excited to have been commissioned to deliver the Management, Governance & Leadership initiative for 110 schools as part of the Anglo America South Africa Education Programme.
The main objective of this Programme is the achievement of inclusive and quality education for children in the communities local to Anglo American South Africa operations. The operations chosen for this initiative include Anglo American’s mining operations in Limpopo (De Beers Venetia & Platinum Mogalakwena and Amandelbult complexes), Mpumalanga (Coal SA Zibulo, Greenside and Khwezela collieries) and Northern Cape (Kumba Kolomela and Sishen mines) as well as SIOC community development trust beneficiary communities in Thabazimbi.
Anglo American has signed an MoU with the Department of Basic Education and the department has pledged its full support for the initiative. The other key partners involved in the programme include New Leaders Foundation, Kagiso Shanduka Trust (KST) as the “Whole School” implementing partner, JET Education Services as the managing partner and Benita Williams who will undertake external evaluation.
The Programme will be delivered over five years (2018 – 2022) and will include early childhood learning, teacher development and basic school infrastructure improvements.
Between 2019 and 2021 PSA will deliver a range of training modules which are followed by structured coaching to principals, deputies, HODs/Senior Teachers, SGBs and Administrators in these schools. These modules and follow on coaching are targeted at specific practices such as curriculum coverage, data management, school planning, financial management, and sound governance. The district officials (circuit managers and subject advisors) will also be integrally involved in the initiative.
Induction sessions to introduce the participants to the programme have already commenced and will be followed by the conducting of assessments using the PSA management practices assessment application.
The programme will apply a robust, integrated whole school approach with a school management focus aimed at securing a meaningful shift in school performance practices and outcomes which could provide a proven intervention model for future initiatives.
