During COVID-19, many school management teams are trying to figure out how they will cope with the demands of schooling where parts of the curriculum have been lost.
The DBE draft Framework for Recovery post COVID-19 indicates “The success of the programmes will depend on effective school leadership and management and the extent to which teachers are adequately capacitated and supported to deal with the high demanding roles they will be confronted with”.
In response to this, Performance Solutions Africa (PSA) has developed two interactive modules for SMT members, partly funded by the Anglo American Education Programme, that can be delivered online. These are:
- Managing a School Remotely
This module capacitates principals/SMT members to manage a school within an environment where the teachers and learners are off-site. It includes creative use of technology and online-learning which is the medium-term goal of the Department of Basic Education.
- Small Group Management
This module provides guidelines for principals/SMT members on how to organize the delivery of lessons in small groups, where there are COVID-19 restrictions of numbers permitted to gather
Both these modules will be facilitated online with principals and HODs to ensure they are able to work as effectively as possible both during the national lockdown and in the period thereafter.
Our team is also committed to assisting and supporting SMTs to navigate through this difficult and unprecedented period to still achieve the minimum requirements for learning in this academic year, in line with DBE and Provincial Education Department (PED) plans.
