Results

The results of the PMDP have been tracked primarily at NSC level. However, now that the ANAs for grades 3, 6, and 9 are being implemented more effectively, it will become possible to track assessment performance at primary school levels as well.

In summary, at NSC level PMDP participating schools have, on average, year on year outperformed the KZN provincial average assessment results by just under 7%. This is indicated in the following graph.

Furthermore, the 2009 pilot cohort of schools recorded a total average improvement of 25.5% in their NSC results since starting the programme in 2009. The 2010 cohort improved by 19.2% from 2010-2012.

The attendance of learners and teachers during the course of the programme is also measured, and on average attendance by teachers improved by more than 5% in 86% of participating schools.

“The project is excellent. After attending it, you are born again as a school manager. It has made a remarkable impact on my management practices. It is indispensable if we are serious about proper school management.”

M.B. Xulu - Principal of Mabuthela High School, Mzumbe Ward, Kwa-Zulu Natal
