The Eastern Cape DBE engaged the PMDP Consortium during 2012/13, together with certain teacher development programmes, in an effort to improve the education outcomes in the province.

The average improvement in NSC results by schools that were part of the PMDP was 18,5% compared with the provincial average of 5,4%. 21 schools which participated in the programme had previously recorded NSC results of less than 30%. 15 of these schools (i.e. 71%) achieved over 30% in 2012/3.

As a result of these achievements a further cohort of 140 schools is already underway and discussions are taking place around a much wider rollout in the province.

“At the beginning I wasn’t happy… later my perceptions of the programme changed as I saw that it was something different, something that opened my eyes. As an HOD, I think I will recommend it to every other school. I found it developing, interesting and thank everybody involved in bringing it…”

M. Piko -  HOD of Adelaide Primary School, Eastern Cape
