Results

The average attendance by principals ranged from 79-93% and for parental support 77% of the groups of 10 per school were achieved with 94.8% of schools being reached.

Participant feedback on the training was extremely positive on all aspects - the gender breakdown on parents/ caregivers indicated 22% male attendance which was higher than expected.

Schools had rolled out the parents workshops on Reading Support to 82 826 parents/ caregivers by the conclusion of the project which was 43% of target - these workshops however continued beyond the project and were fully owned by the schools themselves.

Reflecting the 6 practices that were trained in the workshops and the progress that was made by schools in implementing each of these, aggregated up to the provincial level. 60% indicates the practice is in place and 80%+ that it is entrenched. Clearly more time was needed to get these practices well entrenched.

Indicating the improvement in practices from the baseline to the end of the project. Clearly a very significant improvement in parental communication. Th overall 0.6 point improvement is in line with benchmarks for improvement over an 18 month implementation period.
