PSA launches another SMT Intervention (Oct 2021)

PSA has been commissioned by the Old Mutual Foundation to support leadership, management, and governance development in support of their Literacy & Numeracy Improvement Programme in 2 districts in Mpumalanga province, namely Ehlanzeni & Nkangala.

The initiative includes 25 primary schools in each of these districts.

The Department of Education in Mpumalanga invited the leadership from the participating schools to Onboarding Sessions, which served to formally launch the programme at the school level, on 22 and 23 September 2021 for Nkangala and Ehlanzeni respectively.

The plan is to commence with baseline assessments on the existing ‘management practices’ in the participating schools, this data will provide the basis from which the impact of the intervention will be measured on an annual basis.

A combination of central workshops and blended support will be provided, commencing in the second week of October 2021. The workshops are conducted by SMT Coaches and are supported by the Circuit Managers of participating schools as well as officials from the Teacher Development directorate in the province as well as in the districts.

Other experienced partners in the programme are COUNT Africa, who will be delivering the numeracy support) and Class Act, who will deliver the literacy support.

The programme will focus on strengthening school management teams, in areas of, amongst others, planning, curriculum coverage & management, leadership in times of crisis and psycho-social support.
